Once I had found all that I could about my Grandmother I realised that I had leads to her parents, my Great Grandparents. This set me off again to the Library and its ever more popular records section.
By searching the "Marriage Certificate of my Grandmother I found her fathers name, her place of Marriage and the date of that Marriage.
By searching the records I found the entry for my Grandmothers Birth. This gave me her mothers maiden name, there place of abode and the name of her father.
I was off like a rocket. I was going to locate these people or bust.
I found that Benjamin Brown, listed as a "Platelayer", had resided in Barnack in Lincolnshire up to the date of the wedding which took place on the 24th July 1884, in Ufford Parish Church, then in Lincolnshire. My Great Grandmother, (Mary ?) Elizabeth Crowson was resident in Ufford up to the date of the wedding.
The problem now is that I have to locate two people about whom little is known and who are difficult to trace.
In my search I have enlisted the help of many people but owe a great vote of thanks to Jill Williams of Kent, for her valued time and help,
You can, I am sure, see the difficulties that face others as they seek for their past. It is never easy, there are very few, if any, short cuts, Everything must be proven stage by stage and step by step. Nothing can be taken at face value and all the tales that you have been told should be sifted carefully to ensure that you glean the truth from them.
My search is one that is hard. It is made as I have and do suffer from a lack of identity. It is full of mystery and excitement that are matched by the "Highs" of finding someone and the "Lows" of failing at the last hurdle. It is at these times that I know that my friends, and my family, pull me through
